Hands-free and spoken send
Lock a recording, stop after silence, and optionally finish with a phrase that presses Return.
A hands-free recording keeps listening after you release the shortcut. You can stop it manually, let a silence interval finish it, or optionally end a message with a phrase that presses Return after the paste.
Lock the recording
On the Shortcuts page, choose Auto and quickly double-tap the shortcut. The recording stays on until you press the key again. Toggle also starts and stops with separate presses. Hold-to-talk continues to stop when you release the key.
Stop after silence
- Open Shortcuts › Hands-free.
- Change Stop after silence from Off to 1.5, 2.5, 4 or 8 seconds.
- Start a locked or toggle recording and speak. After speech has been heard, that length of silence can stop it.
A small countdown line on the recorder shows silence being counted. Speaking again cancels it. This applies to hands-free recordings, not to a key you are still holding. A paused recording does not run this countdown.
The setting is off by default. Choose a longer interval if you pause to think between sentences. With auto-stop enabled, if no speech is detected at all, a hands-free recording can be cancelled after about 20 seconds instead of transcribing an empty take.
Send with a phrase
- Open the mode you use for messages and go to Output.
- Turn on Spoken send. It is off by default and enabled per mode.
- End with a separate clause such as “See you at five. Send it.”, then finish the recording normally or through auto-stop.
The send phrase is removed from the text and Return is pressed after the paste. It does not end the audio recording by itself. A phrase inside a sentence, or “send it?” as a question, is not treated the same way.
English phrases and supported phrases for your chosen spoken languages are supplied by default. Edit them under Shortcuts › Hands-free › Send phrases, or reset them to the defaults.
The mode's explicit auto-send key takes priority. Spoken send applies to suitable paste output, and is disabled in terminals. Enable it only in a mode where sending the message is what you intend.
